We all have watched the recent news about the Ebola crises unfolding in Africa and even feeling its effect here at home. Dale Rogers Training Center’s close associate My Heart’s Appeal has been involved in assisting the affected in Africa. The Ebola crisis has affected things like food. Food prices have risen by an average of 24 percent across the three countries worst hit by the Ebola outbreak. The food-producing regions of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia in West Africa have been severely affected by the worst outbreak on record of the viral hemorrhagic fever that has killed 4,546 across the three countries. In the Liberian capital, Monrovia, prices of cassava and imported rice, the main staple food, have jumped by 30 percent. Aid workers in the crowded Monrovia neighborhood of Logan Town began distributing emergency rations of rice, bulgur wheat, peas and oil to around 1,000 residents.
My Heart’s Appeal has collected over 2½ tons of food and medical supplies and have shipped this donation to Liberia. The donated items will be given to one hundred My Heart’s Appeal families, staff and volunteers, arriving on time for the holiday season.
Helping individuals with disabilities in the Ebola-stricken West African city of Monrovia, Liberia is closer than you might imagine. We are pleased to announce that My Heart’s Appeal (MHA) and the Dale Rogers Training Center (DRTC) are joining hands to inform, embrace and impact the life-giving needs of this battered but brave community.
Celebrating its third annual fundraiser, My Heart’s Appeal is hosting a colorful evening of food, friendship, information and fundraising complete with Gallery Walk, Silent Auction, Interactive Cultural exchanges and Door Prizes.
