Anytime youā€™ve been in a relationship for 15 years, youā€™re bound to have endured many good times while creating cherished memories. The relationship between Dale Rogers Training Center (DRTC) and Pelco Products, Inc. is no different.

The two partnered with one another in 2002, expanding DRTCā€™s Mobile Workforce Program, which sends a team of up to eight individuals with disabilities and a DRTC staff member to various locations to complete projects.

Hard at work

DRTCā€™s crew has helped package more than 100 various kits for Pelcoā€™s traffic and utility products. These kits, comprised of anywhere from 2-48 pieces, are used to assemble street lights, stop lights and other products made at the traffic and utility hardware manufacturerā€™s headquarters in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Upon assembly, completed components assembled by DRTCā€™s skilled workforce are distributed worldwide. Pelco sells products to all 50 states and international markets as well.

Through the 15-year partnership, DRTCā€™s Mobile Workforce has produced 3.5 million kits for Pelco.

ā€œI donā€™t know of one kit that ever came back wrong,ā€ said Phil Parduhn, Pelco Co-Owner.

Pelco President & CEO Steve Parduhn added, ā€œThereā€™s been enough kits that every man, woman, child in the state of Oklahoma could have one of these kits.ā€

15-year anniversary

During a 15-year anniversary celebration, DRTC presented Pelco Products a poster framed at Wyman Frame, a division of DRTC, with the words ā€œYou Make a Difference,ā€ signed by members of the Mobile Workforce team.

Pelcoā€™s inclusion of individuals at DRTC is notable, from staff luncheons and activities, signage welcoming the crew, or online as the company demonstrates its commitment to community.

ā€œItā€™s a joy working with you guys, having you here,ā€ said Steve Parduhn. ā€œBeing a part of the Pelco family has been wonderful and we really appreciate it.ā€

The feeling is mutual from Mobile Workforce participants.

ā€œWe are family,ā€ said Chris.

ā€œWe do a good job and like working the kits,ā€ said Bonnie.

ā€œWe are good employees and we get the kits done,ā€ added Sandra.

ā€œPelcoā€™s commitment to providing real job opportunities for people with disabilities is something that should be modeled in more places,ā€ said DRTC Executive Director Connie Thrash McGoodwin. ā€œThey (Pelco) have included our individuals, making them feel welcomed and part of the team.ā€

New opportunities

While DRTCā€™s Mobile Workforce completes the kitting jobs at Pelcoā€™s large facility, others on Dale Rogers Training Centerā€™s main campus complete subcontract work, providing more work opportunities for people with disabilities.

Individuals in DRTCā€™s Vocational Services Program also help kit items up to 19 pieces. Another subcontracting job with Pelco creates jobs for people with disabilities by having them install reflective tape along the edges of massive traffic light borders.

Bright future

As we celebrate the success weā€™ve had in the past, we continue to look toward the future.

Dale Rogers Training Center is excited for whatā€™s to come with Pelco and the exciting opportunities for those served to develop skills and earn a paycheck.

DRTC, its clients, and their families are eternally grateful for the partnership, and relationships formed over the past 15 years.

Dale Rogers Training Center and Pelco Products have reached a milestone; they celebrated their 10 year partnership in October.

Pelco opened in 1985 and quickly became the largest manufacturer of traffic signal hardware in the United States, currently serving 50 states nationally and 14 countries worldwide. In an effort to both reduce costs and improve productivity, Pelco sought DRTCā€™s Mobile Workforce. Beginning with 5 different traffic and streetlight kits in 2002, the Mobile Workforce has now contributed to the construction of over 60 different types of hardware kits. Many of the lights you will see near the new Project 180 in downtown Oklahoma City, are products of Pelco.

Utilizing Pelcoā€™s lean ā€œjust-in-timeā€ assembly processes, the Mobile Workforce has provided around 108,000 operating man hours over the past 10 years and has been instrumental in improving product turnaround time and manufacturing efficiency.

Pelco has been a wonderful partner over the past 10 years, this summer they constructed two signs to recognize the contributions of the DRTC assembly team, making the workers feel appreciated as a part of Pelco. To show our gratitude for the wonderful 10 year anniversary milestone, DRTC presented Pelco with a plaque made by individuals at Prism Place, along with our new Boot Kickinā€™ BBQ set and our White Hat Southwest Dip mix.Ā  The individuals who travel weekly to work at Pelco also prepared a signed card as part of the presentation.

Pelco also recently placed a large order of 175 of our new BBQ spice sets for their holiday gifts to their customers! DRTC is proud of our partnership with Pelco Products and looks forward to continuing to grow with them in the future.
